The Good Things

Be sure to head over to Jill Phillips’ new site to order her new album, The Good Things. Sharp, artful production by Andy Gullahorn and Cason Cooley. Easily some of Jill’s best work yet.

New Site Design Launched

As much as I enjoyed my old template, its time for a new look for this blog. I’m adding some design portfolio pieces to the site, and also wanted to begin to use the space to put up recommendations of music or books.

The last few nights I’ve been modifying a Wordpress theme for my fiancee, Melissa. We’ll putting that up soon, but holding off because of her new “married name specific” URL. I figure that’s best.

Let me know if you have any comments on this Wordpress theme. I’ve love to hear any recommendations you have.

Pretty soon I’ll be adding more of my design work, so be on the look out. Aaron Greene: I’ll be calling you soon to help me out with some photography of album packaging projects.

Wordpress for iPhone

I’ve just installed Wordpress for my phone. It seems pretty great so far. Apparently I can add photos taken from my phone as well. Let’s test it out here in the grocery store parking lot while I wait for Melissa.

David Mead

This is a new test post to test out my blog’s featured post section. Let’s see if this works well. Hopefully it will.

Why do iPhone Apps tend to have lower ratings than iTunes music?

It struck me why: Because as you delete an application off your phone it asks you to rank it. Of COURSE people who are deleting apps would be among the most negative. I’d wager the same two and three star ratings would be all over the Music Store if, as you deleted unwanted music from your Library, you were asked to rank it.

Wordpress 2.7

This new upgrade is amazing. Just thought I’d say so. Anyone who’s running Wordpress should update right away.

Nothing Like Putting Your Foot Down

“Finally, all the faithful are commanded not to presume to read or possess any books contrary to the prescriptions of these rules or the prohibition of this list. And if anyone should read or possess books by heretics or writings by any author condemned and prohibited by reason of heresy or suspicion of false teaching, he incurs immediately the sentence of excommunication. He, on the other hand, who reads or possesses books prohibited under another name shall, besides incurring the guilt of mortal sin, be severely punished according to the judgment of the bishops.” -Council of Trent

Now Fair Trade Books

Last night, the very first audiobook went up on NoiseTrade.

Free music has been proliferating around the Internet for years now. And of course free written content has been part and parcel to the Web from the beginning. But to my knowledge this may be the first time spoken audio content has been given away through a viral “tell your friends” promotion. (And through an embeddable widget at that.)

We have talked about the possibility of distributing forms of content other than music through NoiseTrade—but this is the first time it has really happened.

Ultimately, NoiseTrade is not just about music. Its about content creators in all disciplines being able to connect with their “tribe” and enabling that growing following to continue to spread the ideas of the tribe to others as simply as possible.

Hopefully more books will be available on the site soon. Along with interviews, comedy, essays, and even sermons. If all goes well, it will not be too long before we enable the widget building process to include the ability to upload movies and PDF content.

This is precisely the sort of thing that Seth Godin spoke of in this interview.
